The Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus), also known as the Yellow Coris Wrasse or Canary Wrasse, is a bright and beneficial marine fish belonging to the family Labridae.

Distribution and Habitat

Found in the Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to the western Pacific, inhabiting shallow sandy reef flats and seaward slopes.

Physical Description

Features a bright yellow body with a black spot on the dorsal fin and subtle facial markings in mature adults.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous, feeds on small crustaceans and invertebrates such as pyramidellid snails and flatworms, also accepting frozen mysis and brine shrimp.

Behavior and Reproduction

Protogynous hermaphrodites that are peaceful toward tankmates and bury in sand at night for protection.

Aquarium Care

Requires 30+ gallons with a deep sand bed for burrowing. It is reef-safe, peaceful, and good for reef tanks as a natural pest controller.

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
