Distribution and Habitat

Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to the Hawaiian Islands, commonly found among branching corals and rocky reef crevices.

Physical Description

Features an orange body with six horizontal blue lines and a distinctive false eyespot on the base of the caudal fin.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous, feeds on small crustaceans and invertebrates such as flatworms, bristle worms, and pyramidellid snails in captivity and the wild.

Behavior and Reproduction

Can be territorial and aggressive toward other wrasses and similarly sized or passive tankmates, especially in smaller aquariums.

Aquarium Care

Requires 30+ gallons with plenty of rockwork, reef-safe, semi-aggressive, and good for pest control in established reefs.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
