The Sunset Wrasse (Thalassoma lutescens), also known as the Yellow Wrasse or Sunset Thalassoma, is an active and colorful marine fish belonging to the family Labridae.

Distribution and Habitat

Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to Hawaii, inhabiting shallow lagoons and seaward reefs rich in coral.

Physical Description

Features a yellow-green body with a distinctive sunset-colored pattern of pink, orange, and blue bands around the head and fins.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous, feeds on small crustaceans, benthic invertebrates, and small fish, accepting frozen meaty preparations in captivity.

Behavior and Reproduction

Protogynous hermaphrodites and energetic swimmers that patrol open water continuously and may jump if spooked.

Aquarium Care

Requires 75+ gallons with a tight lid and plenty of open swimming room. Semi-aggressive toward passive tankmates and not safe with ornamental shrimp.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
