The Lunare Wrasse (Thalassoma lunare), also known as the Moon Wrasse, is an extraordinarily active marine fish belonging to the family Labridae.

Distribution and Habitat

Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to the western Pacific, common in lagoons and coastal reefs across tropical waters.

Physical Description

Features a brilliant green body with a crescent-shaped yellow patch on the caudal fin and magenta-blue facial markings.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous, feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton, greedily devouring chopped shrimp, krill, and pellets in captivity.

Behavior and Reproduction

Protogynous hermaphrodites that are very active and can be aggressive toward newcomers or smaller tankmates.

Aquarium Care

Requires 55+ gallons with a tight lid. It is a hardy species but semi-aggressive, requiring robust tankmates and no small invertebrates.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
