The Zebra Goby (Ptereleotris zebra), also known as the Zebra Barred Dartfish or Chinese Zebra Goby, is a species of dartfish native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.

Distribution and Habitat

The Zebra Goby is native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. It is an inhabitant of reefs and can be found in schools at depths of 2 to 31 meters, though usually no deeper than 4 meters.

Physical Description

The Zebra Goby can reach a length of 12 cm (4.7 in). It has an elongated body with distinctive zebra-like vertical stripes. The body is generally light with dark vertical bars running along the body.

Diet and Feeding

This species feeds on zooplankton and small invertebrates in the water column. In captivity it accepts brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and prepared foods.

Behavior and Reproduction

The Zebra Goby is peaceful and is often found in schools in the wild. It hovers in the water column above the substrate and will dart into burrows when threatened.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with a sandy substrate and plenty of live rock for hiding. It is peaceful and reef-safe. It should be kept with peaceful tankmates and may be kept in small groups.
