Distribution and Habitat

Found in the western Atlantic from North Carolina to Brazil, including the Caribbean, on sandy and muddy bottoms.

Physical Description

Small spiral shell with a pointed spire, smooth surface, tan to brown coloration.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous scavenger, feeds on dead organisms and leftover food, uses a long siphon to detect food.

Behavior and Reproduction

Burrows in the sand and emerges when it detects food, often appears in groups when food is present, excellent sand bed cleaner.

Aquarium Care

Requires 10+ gallons with a sand bed, reef-safe, ideal for keeping sand beds clean of detritus.
