Distribution and Habitat

Found throughout the Caribbean and tropical western Atlantic on sandy bottoms and seagrass beds.

Physical Description

Elongated spiral shell with a pointed spire, tan to brown coloration, large muscular foot used for hopping.

Diet and Feeding

Omnivorous scavenger, sifts through sand for detritus, algae and leftover food.

Behavior and Reproduction

Uses its powerful foot to hop across the sand, buries itself in substrate when resting, males and females are separate.

Aquarium Care

Requires 30+ gallons with a deep sand bed, reef-safe, needs a sand bed of at least 2-3 inches to forage properly.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
