Distribution and Habitat
The Hawaiian Dragon Eel is found in the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Indo-Pacific. It inhabits coral reefs at depths of 8 to 60 meters, typically hiding in crevices and caves during the day.
Physical Description
The Hawaiian Dragon Eel reaches a maximum length of approximately 92 cm (36 in). It has a striking pattern of dark spots on a lighter background, resembling a leopard or dragon pattern. The head is distinctive with a curved jaw and prominent nostrils. The body is elongated and muscular.
