The Bicolor Foxface (Siganus uspi), also known as the Bicolor Rabbitfish or Fiji Foxface, is a species of rabbitfish from Fiji. It is prized for its striking two-tone coloration.

Distribution and Habitat

The Bicolor Foxface is found in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, particularly around Fiji. It inhabits coral reefs at depths of 3 to 30 meters.

Physical Description

The Bicolor Foxface reaches a maximum length of approximately 20 cm (7.9 in). It has a striking two-tone coloration with the front half of the body being dark brown to black and the rear half being bright yellow. This sharp color division gives the species its common name.

Diet and Feeding

The Bicolor Foxface is herbivorous, feeding primarily on algae. In captivity it should be fed a diet rich in marine algae, spirulina, and plant-based foods supplemented with occasional meaty foods.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and generally non-aggressive. It is a schooling fish in the wild. This species produces venom in the spines of its fins as a defense mechanism.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 55 gallons with ample swimming space and abundant live rock for grazing. It is generally considered reef-safe. It is peaceful and can be kept with a variety of tankmates. Handle with care as the dorsal spines are venomous.
