The Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis) is an extraordinarily colorful and graceful marine fish belonging to the family Labridae.

Distribution and Habitat

Found in the Indian Ocean from East Africa to the Maldives, commonly inhabiting seaward reef slopes with sandy patches and rubble zones.

Physical Description

Features an iridescent green and blue body with a yellow head, highlighted by vibrant orange and white markings along its flanks.

Diet and Feeding

Carnivorous, feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and mobile invertebrates, readily eating mysis and enriched brine shrimp in captivity.

Behavior and Reproduction

Protogynous hermaphrodites that are peaceful with other peaceful fish and buries in sand at night to sleep.

Aquarium Care

Requires 30+ gallons with a fine deep sand bed for burrowing. It is reef-safe, peaceful, and an exceptional addition to community reef tanks.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
