The Bella Goby (Valencienna bella) is a species of goby from the Indo-Pacific. It is prized for its attractive coloration and peaceful nature.

Distribution and Habitat

The Bella Goby is found in the Indo-Pacific region. It inhabits coastal reefs and lagoons with sandy substrates where it can burrow.

Physical Description

The Bella Goby reaches a maximum length of approximately 15 cm (5.9 in). It has an elongated body with a distinctive coloration pattern. The body is generally light with darker markings and a yellowish to orange hue on the head.

Diet and Feeding

The Bella Goby is carnivorous, feeding on small invertebrates by sifting sand through its mouth. In captivity it accepts brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other small meaty foods.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and can be kept in pairs. It is known to burrow in the sand and will often hover near its burrow entrance.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with a deep sand bed for burrowing and plenty of live rock. It is peaceful and reef-safe. It should be kept with peaceful tankmates.
