The Starry Blenny (Salarias ramosus) is a species of combtooth blenny from the Western Central Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade.

Distribution and Habitat

The Starry Blenny is found in the Western Central Pacific Ocean. It inhabits shallow coral reefs and rocky areas with heavy algae cover.

Physical Description

The Starry Blenny can reach a length of 14 cm (5.5 in). It has a distinctive appearance with a mottled brown to olive body covered with small star-like white or light blue spots, giving it its common name.

Diet and Feeding

The Starry Blenny feeds primarily on algae and detritus. In captivity it accepts a varied diet including spirulina, marine algae, and frozen preparations.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and generally reef-safe. It may be territorial toward other blennies.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with abundant live rock for grazing and perching.

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
