The Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor), also known as the Flame Tail Blenny, is a blenny from the Indo-Pacific. It frequently makes its way into the aquarium trade.

Distribution and Habitat

The Bicolor Blenny is found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific region. It inhabits shallow coral reefs and rocky areas.

Physical Description

The Bicolor Blenny grows to a size of 11 cm (4.3 in) in length. It has a distinctive two-tone coloration with a dark brown to black anterior half and a bright orange to yellow posterior half.

Diet and Feeding

The Bicolor Blenny feeds primarily on algae and detritus. In captivity it accepts a varied diet including spirulina, marine algae, and frozen preparations.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and generally reef-safe. It may be territorial toward other blennies of similar appearance.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 20 gallons with abundant live rock for grazing and hiding.
