Distribution and Habitat

The Red Scooter Blenny Dragonet is found in the Indo-Pacific region. It inhabits coral reefs and sandy bottoms at various depths.

Physical Description

The Red Scooter Blenny Dragonet reaches a maximum size of approximately 7 cm (2.8 in). It has a mottled red and brown coloration with distinctive dorsal fin rays that it uses to display. Males typically have more elaborate dorsal fins than females.

Diet and Feeding

The Red Scooter Blenny Dragonet is carnivorous, feeding primarily on copepods and other small benthic invertebrates. In captivity it requires a well-established tank with abundant copepod populations or frequent feedings of live foods.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and bottom-dwelling. Males display their dorsal fins to attract females. It is a peaceful community fish.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with abundant live rock and a well-established copepod population. It is considered reef-safe. It can be difficult to feed in captivity and may require live foods such as copepods.
