The Captive-Bred Pink Skunk Clownfish (Amphiprion perideraion), also known as the Pink Anemonefish, is a captive-bred variant of a species of anemonefish widespread from northern Australia through the Malay Archipelago and Melanesia.

Distribution and Habitat

The Pink Skunk Clownfish is found throughout the Malay Archipelago and Melanesia in the western Pacific Ocean from the Great Barrier Reef and Tonga north to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan and in the eastern Indian Ocean. It inhabits reef lagoons and outer reef slopes at depths of 3 to 20 meters.

Physical Description

The Pink Skunk Clownfish is one of the smallest anemonefish species with females growing to 10 cm (3.9 in). The body is pink to peach with a white stripe along the dorsal ridge and a white head bar running vertically just behind the eye.

Diet and Feeding

The Pink Skunk Clownfish is omnivorous, feeding on zooplankton, benthic worms, tunicates, and algae. It is the only species of anemonefish to primarily feed on algae. In captivity it accepts brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, chopped shellfish, and dried algae.

Behavior and Reproduction

This species is peaceful and can be kept with a variety of tankmates. It is a sequential hermaphrodite with a strict size-based dominance hierarchy.

Aquarium Care

It requires a tank of at least 20 gallons. It is considered reef-safe.

Conservation Status

Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.
